Prince in High Places

Prince in High Places

A Poem by Nihad Dweidary

Oh, dearest!

Were I a cloud,

I would rain on your

fields of melody

sounding sweet notes.

Were I a flood,

I would quench your thirst

for familiar grounds

and realms unknown.

Were I snow,

I would blanket your earth

with long-sought desires.

But I...... I fear

I am evanescent fog,

prince in high places,

that caresses thee

in delicate delirium,

lest your luminous light

tears my descending constume.
