Grim

Grim

A Poem by Rowena Slade

I am cold.

I am feared.

I'm the taste

Of sweet relief.

I'm the punishment

For a crime.

You can't run from me.

You can't hide from me.

I cause tears.

I cause pain.

I cause depression.

I cause joy.

I am great,

Yet evil.

I am bright as day,

But dark as night.

I don't care

If you're strong,

Weak,

Poor,

Rich,

Man,

Woman,

Black,

White,

Beast,
Or human,

I'm just around the corner.

You can beg.

You can plead.

You can try to bribe me.

Nothing will work.

You will meet me one day,

Whether you want to

Or not.

Have you guessed who I am yet?

I am death,

And I am here

With open arms

Waiting for you.
