A Hurt and Tortured Soul

A Hurt and Tortured Soul

A Poem by Rowena Slade

People think I'm happy.

They think I'm proud.

They think I love life.

They couldn't be more wrong.

The real me,

The hidden me

Is depressed

And scared.

I hope and pray

That I'll just die

And wither away.

For this life

Has hurt and tortured me.

I can't take it any longer.

I'm scared

If I let people see the real me

They will hurt and torture me

Even more

Than they already have.

Please don't hurt

Or torture me.

If you do

The next time you see me

I'll be stone cold dead

Lying in a coffin

Finally at peace.
