Put Me Through Hell

Put Me Through Hell

A Poem by Rowena Slade

I look at you.

You look at me.

I freeze solid,

From the fear running through me.

I don't know what to do,

What to say,

Or even what to think.

So I just turn

And head back to my friends.

But you're still there

Watching me.

I hope and pray

You'll just go away.

So I don't have to hide

Or stand there

Ashamed and scared.

I was never this scared

Around you before,

So why am I now?

Maybe because I've had years

To think of the torture

You put me through.

You stole my childhood,

My dreams,

My life.

I can never get those years back.

They're gone forever

Because of you.

I'm done blaming myself

When it wasn't my fault.

I was yours.

I don't know

How you can live with yourself,

Knowing

You put me through hell.
