Chain of RosesA Poem by Rowen CameronA rose by any other name...Heart of gold, Kindness behold, A mouth from which lies could never be told. Smile of light, Laughter delight, Aura to rival the sphere of night. Iron trust, Repelling rust, Loyalty to slaughter foes to dust. Bonds of stone, Pride overthrown, Roses on tapestry tightly sewn. With guardians like this, she is always secure, Demeanour content and joyousness pure. But even when ailments are faced with a cure, The tiniest fragment continues unsure. The heart, it grows
wings for an endless flight, To soar high everlasting no matter the fight. To bind such wings is an action of spite And no mortal on earth can declare this their right. Others inquire of her
heart, the guardian replies, Powerful effusions to pale her tries. Do not suppose that the guardian lies, But the ultimate truths swim in rain-coloured eyes. Heart of gold, Kindness behold, A mouth from which lies could never be told. Smile of light, Laughter delight, Aura to rival the sphere of night. Roses to bind, Beauty refined, But even they too leave wounds behind.
Thorns wield pains And chains are chains. And a heart cannot fly when happiness wanes. © 2015 Rowen Cameron |
