A Swan to me

A Swan to me

A Poem by Rossen
"

dancing and playing by the edge of the sea

"
Charging downhills... fear lost to the wind
blue eyed dusty blond with a mile of grin
mud balls with plum centers to the neighbor boys head's
arm wrestles and sleep overs,in sheet fort bunk beds
dancing and playing by the edge of the sea
her partner, strewn kelp and giant seaweed
she once won a foot race... the entire fifth grade!
the strongest and fastest in all sports she played
together we flew a kite till we used up all the string
she let it go just to run it down and catch that falling thing
over the tall grassy hills of sand I heard a man say,he is
the fastest boy I ever did see. I said to him,"he is a she"
my stepdaughter such a little tomboy... a Swan to me...
on her eleventh birthday I gave to her,her first dress
she cleans up so nicely dusty hair no longer a mess..
indigo blue paisley, shiny shoes and a ribbon for her hair
all grown up now, I so miss her.. chasing string in the air..

How sweet I am a tom boy reminds me of myself when I was little.

I agree with Frieda, the rhythm is light, but meaningful: I especially like the line "he is a she my stepdaughter such a little tomboy ... a Swan to me .."

I'm glad the world had changed. Woman can be fast, swim and fly down mountains. I did like the above lines. Young girls do change. I watched them grow-up too fast for a father's heart. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.
