PanicA Poem by Rose DiamondMy heart is racing My head is spinning Thoughts jumble and clash in my head Dark thoughts that rise with the moon And set with the sun Slowly I fall to the floor Head between my knees Rocking: Backwards Forwards Backwards Forwards My voice pulls at the chains that bind it to my throat Weak, weak chains that are slowly bending My trembling hand reaches for the phone Just one simple text One text that will end this Your number is displayed on the screen My shaking fingers linger above your smiling face Will you care? Will you listen to my caged voice And read the words that pour from my fingertips? Will you see my face pop up on your screen And proceed to turn off your phone? Will you take me seriously Or laugh at my foolishness? Will you acknowledge the demons that haunt me Or will you think me a petty child? I look again at your face on my screen And slowly I turn it off That night I stay on the floor Allowing the waves of panic to wash over me Until sleep numbs me completely Tomorrow As I awake by myself I prepare for yet another day Another day I must pretend That nothing Ever Happened
