BirdsA Poem by Rose DiamondWhen a bird flies Does it ever look down And feel pity for us who are earth bound?
Does it see the chains that we can only feel? Can it view the walls we can only imagine?
This bird upon my windowsill Can it sense my feelings of melancholy? Is it able to understand my desire for flight? My desire and yearning for a life in the skies Where prisons are fantasies And routine isn't a word
Though I envy this little bird I must ask:
Will its heart ever be warmed by a smooth melody? Can it cry over a novel Or chat with someone millions of miles away?
Will this bird experience the foods of the world Or feel the hand of their loved one entwined around their own?
No
But these things All of the beautiful things Are within my grasp Lying in my reach
And I would throw them all away
If just for one day I could spread my wings and fly © 2014 Rose DiamondFeatured Review
