Chapter 3A Chapter by JackieThere was no earth shattering moment when the two girls became one, it simply was. One moment, Maddy had been looking across the glass at -- against all rhyme or reason -- herself and the next she had become herself; or, at least, the 'herself' the girl from the pond had been. None of this made any sense. Where was she? Putting a hand to her -- considerably longer than she remembered -- hair, she tried to remember what it was that she was doing before ending up, well, here. 'Think,' she thought. 'There has to be some explanation.' "Yes, of course, I know that!" She said aloud, her hands almost balling into fists by her side. 'Then find it.' Maddy's blood went cold. It was her voice, the voice she had always thought in, but -- to be fair she shouldn't have been too terribly surprised at this, what with everything else going on around her -- that was not her thought. 'Of course it's not. What did you think would happen when you took over my body?' "I'm sorry," Maddy started, pacing around and sending nervous glances to her surroundings just in case someone was listening. "But what do you mean, 'your body'?" Rather than seeing, or even feeling, a response she simply knew what the other girl was trying to convey. A look. One telling her that the answer should be obvious. "How--" Maddy cut herself off, staring off into the distance, confused as ever. "How did you do that?" 'Is this your first time travelling?' "Travelling?" Another look was sent her way. 'Do you have a different name for this where you come from? Or--' The other girl gives a heavy sigh. 'You have no clue what is going on, do you?' After getting no response from Maddy, she continues. 'This isn't my area of expertise. You need to find Paetir. I'll show you the way.' © 2018 Jackie |
