Chapter 2A Chapter by JackieMaddy's eyes opened. She gasped for air, sputtering water out of her lungs and onto the cool grass. As she sat up fully, she ran her hands through her hair trying to get the knots out. A brief shiver went down her spine as she felt the wind change direction. Something wasn't right; she couldn't tell what but there was something off. She looked around herself wildly, eyes finally landing on -- a hand went to her mouth to cover a gasp -- herself. Trapped behind a thick pane of glass, she watched herself, both versions standing shock still with horror written across their face. They stayed like that, statues, until the Maddy that had just almost drowned remembered to breathe. She stood slowly, taking one careful, deliberate step after another until she reached the invisible wall between the impossible and herself. The other girl placed a small hand in the air, mouth held agape. "What--" The whisper barely escaped her throat before the ground reached up to meet her. © 2018 Jackie |
