Saved

Saved

A Poem by R. Schreiber

Saved

H.R. Schreiber

She’s gone through so much

So much pain and hatred

But at the same time happiness and love.

She’s sitting on the floor in the dark

Alone

Waiting for someone to notice how she’s started falling apart

Crumbling piece by piece

Until all that’s left are the crumbs

The crumbs the rats pick up

The crumbs that everyone sweeps under the rug

So that no one will notice them.

She’s waiting for you to realize you broke her

The tears that used to soak her carpet

They’ve stained her heart

And dried the memory in the fabric.

She’s tried so hard

Hard to be happy

Hard to feel the warmth of love

Like the warm tingle of coffee in the morning.

She’s fallen for something

Something so terribly unreachable

That when she hit rock bottom

The thousand pieces of love she had for you

Exploded in mid air.

She was lost in the dark

Waiting for the lightning through the storm

For someone to clear away the fog

And see she was there under the rug

Cowering from emotions unknown to the lucky

Unknown to anyone who hasn’t picked themselves up

After they’ve been completely lost.

Someone found her.

His kind heart was so powerful

The cloud above her head distinguished

Vanished out of sight.

She cried with him for the night

As it grew cold

He was the warmth.

She had lost everything she loved

To be picked up by the one who actually cared.

She was falling upward into the sun it seemed.

He didn’t mind the rain she released

For the time the storm roared

He wanted to feel every drop with her

He wanted to slay the cold

He wanted to make her world brighter than Olympus

And show her a love not even the gods could create.

All she wanted was love,

The kind of love that you see in movies

When they fall head over heals.

But this time she didn’t want to fall.

She wanted to fly.

Fly so high that those who broke her

Would look up and feel

as though they were in rock bottom

She wanted a love that only grew

She wanted someone that never let her doubt again.

He was someone who knew storms would come

Raging from all around

He couldn’t control that

He knew how to feel every moment with her

Capture it within a jar

And let it glow in the dark

As if they were fire flies.

He could look at her in those moments

And know he created that smile.

God she had an amazing smile.

One that everyone anticipated to see,

To see her happy.

She had this deep emotion

It was contagious, really,

It made the room light up.

Before,

It would just make the room stare.

Before,

It wasn’t a smile

But the curl of her lips

As she held in a cry so fierce

That it would build up in the cloud

And rain over her later.

He saved her

And he doesn’t even know it yet.

She has life inside her soul.

She has a happiness

That you can’t easily extinguish.

She has a heart of gold

And you preferred silver.

That was your mistake.

She found someone

Someone who can love her through the rain

And not hide under the covers

When they get scared of the dark

And not turn to the wrong path

Just because the right one was a little bit darker.

That was your mistake.
