Don't! Let Go

Don't! Let Go

A Poem by Anna

In the fire

It was impossible

Not to love the hands

That ripped me out--

And now

I feel them

On my wrists.

The pull of his

Shoulders, my weight

Heavy on the

Sidewalk, under

The overhang--

Like the smoke

In my lungs.

Phantoms in the

Dusk of all

That ever was.

I miss the fire

That I saw him

Through

I miss the hurt

I felt unashamed for

In his arms--

When I didn't know

Him yet.

The comfort of

Thinking you'll die

Anyway and so

I can't be guilty--

Only held.
