I Know What You Are

I Know What You Are

A Poem by Anna

Why do you put me through this violence?
Like tearing down my garden-
It took so long to plant and grow
I don't have the energy for it now when
All I am is inconsolable, healing still
From wounds that are ages of oak trees old.
How can you look at me like that?
I have held you in my arms
Unable to lick my own wounds
In the face of your little scratches-
I couldn't bear them but
I couldn't stomach them either.
The same river of violence is in me
Carrying me downstream, drowning
The child that admires its wrath.
Petals and leaves are everywhere
All over the cobblestone
All over the shoddy brick path-
I have bruises in me, bones that ache.
Rage is not a thing you notice
It is quiet like the undercurrent
That takes you out to sea.
I can no longer ask you about it
When it has found a home in me.

I liked the creativity of this, how it turned around at the end. Really dark but well written.
