Ash-ache

Ash-ache

A Poem by Anna

I ache to know why
This never seems to work.
I'm meant to learn a lesson but
I keep the shards, I learn to
Bleed more efficiently.
How can I shatter glass
Without cutting myself on it-?
I could bleed from
The softest touch of it.
The fencing must come down
It's still too tall and all
I have are my bare hands.
Am I meant to do this
With the skin of my soul-?
Just the bones inside
The strength of tired flesh.
It turns over in my chest
Belly up for the sun
But goddamn it's still midnight.
Time never passes
Until it's dawn again.
Dawn again
Dawn again, and again.
Does this have an end-?
Where are you-?
The fencing must come down.
Hands dark or not, heart
Open or not.
