Maritime VisionA Poem by AnnaI wake to the scream of my alarm pulled from underwater, ripped from your arms; I am dragged out of the sea, I want to go down; I want to go back to your touch, let me drown. I am clawing at these wooden piers desperate to sink, my goal is raindrop-clear; the waves promise to embrace me far below; I am wrenched into reality, just let me go. I am lugged across the raging shore I ache to fall to your kiss, suffocate in the encore; fill my lungs with saltwater, I want to descend; I crave your muffled voice, my sweetest friend. I wake in a shock and I cannot sleep hauled from your call, yanked from your deep; curling earth under nail, howling like the wind; I am tearing at my watery heart, I want to mend. I yearn to be wrapped in your cold caress I am jolted awake, scratching at my burning chest; I am begging, let me run back to the misty sea; breathing in the rolling froth, I want to cease to be.
