An Ode To An Old Friend

An Ode To An Old Friend

A Poem by Anna

Good morning, my friend,
and come with me to watch the sun rise in the darkening sky.
The night was long, and how have you been?
I want to show you the maddening threads of thought in me.

We meet again, my friend,
as every dawn carries yesterday's ghost men on her back.
The night was long, and how have you been?
I want to show you the killing field that rests in this world.

Good evening, my friend,
we all see the ancient face of death some time or perhaps another.
The night is long, and how will you fair?
I wanted to show you the chaos just beyond our numb finger tips.

I know, my friend,
you would believe it all too quickly in the twilight.

I'll see you again, my friend,
whether you see me with feathered wings of gold or shadow eyes.
The night is silent, and how will you feel?
I wanted to show you there was still beauty left in this mad sea,
when bullets pull children to peace in graveyards,
I wanted to show you there wasn't always poison in the tea,
just as you once believed,
just as you once showed me.

A bittersweet poem.

I liked the above lines. You said a handful with these words. Thank you Anna for sharing the outstanding poetry. I did like this poem.

Wow! It's so evocative. The words are just perfect for the thoughts behind them. It's beautiful and sad. I pictured a lot of bronze type of color for some weird reason. Maybe that was just me. Still a really excellent piece. :) Ps. Maybe you can read one of mine when you some time.
