A Story by Rosaliine

Car chases were not nearly as fun and exciting as they were on the television. Actually; that’s a lie. I’d been in plenty of high speed car chases that left my adrenaline pumping as well as making me feel high when I’d been my Brother’s getaway driver. So it was just this particular car chase that felt this way. And it was probably for six reasons.
The first was the twisting and curving country roads of good old Hertfordshire. The bends were sharp and the roads were bumpy which numerous potholes contributed to. Normally this wouldn’t bother me but now we come to the second reason. The weather. Typical English weather. It was pouring with rain and the roads were beginning to flood. Which meant if I wasn’t careful I could end up splashing through a deep puddle which could result in engine trouble and/or brake failure. And just to add the icing to the cake it was extremely foggy making those pesky sharp bends difficult to see and appear out of nowhere.
Again; I would normally be able to cope with this were it not for the fact that two months ago I’d treated myself to a new car. A bigger car than I was used to driving in car chases. Now don’t get me wrong. I can drive just fine. I’m the best driver here; if it were daytime and I was doing my normal errands it would be fine. But of course it wasn’t daytime and this wasn’t a normal errand. I was still getting used to my seven seater Mercedes Vito V6 sport. Even though she’d been remapped she wasn’t doing as well as I’d have liked.
The fourth reason was the other people in the car. The reason we’d chosen my car instead of Jordan’s, my brother’s, car was because we needed the seven seats. Jordan had called shotgun, currently leaning out the window firing what seemed like too many bullets in my opinion but at least it wasn’t hexes or curses he was firing. There was now a no spell ban in the car due to the unpredictable and inaccurate tendencies Magic had causing it to backfire on us about four years ago. In between the firing of bullets he was squabbling with the other three males in the car. Yes. I said squabbling. None of them were acting like the 26-30ish year olds they actually were. There was also a screaming female in the car who hours before had been putting on a brave face and calling me a coward when I refused to spar with her. One quick look in the rear view mirror confirmed that she was a mess who had clearly never been out in the field. A make-up smeared, blubbery mess. She looked awful which made me secretly pleased. Her boyfriend also seemed unimpressed by this and looked like he was contemplating throwing her out of the car.
And now we come to the final two reasons that this was an awful car chase. I had no cool up beat getaway music blasting from the car speakers. No; ladies and gentleman what I did in fact have playing was lullabies. Disney lullabies. When you wish upon a star if you wanted to know the exact song. This was because of the most important reason. I was trying and praying very hard that my 10 month old son would stay asleep because if his sleep cycle was interrupted or disturbed in any way then there would be hell to pay. I’d make sure of it.
