Oh to Walk the EarthA Poem by Tionge Rosalie JohnsonThis was in response to all of the shootings towards black men and women that's been going on recently. And, in response to all of the violence in our world that's been happening.Oh to walk the earth, with the new and innocent eyes of a child. Seeing the fresh, vibrant, untarnished land outside. Oh to walk the earth, and see each other as broken. Broken pieces of human flesh sewn together by grace, where each thread's pulled together in unison. Oh to walk the earth, without the pit stains of racism and oppression. Where the buckets of sweat and dirt by slaves and native americans are temporarily smeared away. So that we, selfishly walk the earth. Oh to walk the earth, where respect and openness are as easy as the flow of breath from that someone sitting beside you on that 8am train. Oh to walk the earth, where the threads of hope bind us together. The blanket that's supposed to protect us all. © 2018 Tionge Rosalie Johnson |
