Intervention

A Poem by Nathaniel Mann
"

My two friends have created a war. Two sides. They were great friends, and stopped feuding a while ago, but the war holds strong. Two options. Dont fight, and let your side down, or fight, and ruin a friendship?

"

There are borderlines between us
That hold strong through the raging war
Our muskets pointed towards the sky
Blood on the hardwood floors
But theres no middle of the battlefield
Where we can safely meet
No break of stride, no loyal pride
Where we admit defeat

(Chorus)
But this innocence
Is in our veins
Its whats keeping us alive
No knowledge of outside these walls
No reason to survive
So we'll keep our weapons pointed forth
We will let this war reign true
And if only an armistice was reached
I would find my way to you

So our antebellum brilliance
Will shine through the darkest storm
Our unmeaningful* ignorance
The cold welcoming warm
Camped out in the battlefield
We're fearing for our lives
No protection for our fears
No muskets, and no knives

(Chorus)

So your declaration of insanity
Helps our independent pride
But theres no argument to be had here
Set your differences aside
Let the leaves of autumn
Twirl into the water underfoot
And float away with the current
As so delicately put

(Chorus)
