Chapter 10A Chapter by Rockel MansarayChapter Ten "What?" Anna flashed me her fake smile. "You don't have to hide it anymore. The whole school knows." I defensively position Esme behind me. "The whole school knows what?" I snarl. "That she has cancer. It's no wonder she covers her face all the time and hides behind you." I try to stop her but Esme moves from behind me and turns to face Anna. "What are you trying to insinuate?" she says much more calmly then I would have in this situation. "It's true isn't it? I mean even if you denied it, no one will believe you. That's how good my source is." I rolled my eyes. "Anna why don't you just-" "I do have cancer." My eyes grew wide at Esme's words. "What?" "I do, so what are you going to do about it?" Anna smirked. "Time will tell wont it? I mean, seeming that you probably don't have much of it left, I hear." My eyes glared dangerously at Anna right then. "That was too far Anna!" I spat angrily raising my voice. "Too far!" Esme put a reassuring hand on my arm, but still kept her stance. "Anna, are you sure?" "I am, and although it took a while, I think I have you all figured out now." Both Anna and I were surprised when Esme suddenly laughed. "You really do have me figured out. I wonder how you managed to though. Your sources I'm guessing?" Slowly I smile to myself. Who would have thought my blind girlfriend, who needed me as her eyes, was capable of defending herself. And good at it too. "None of your business," Anna verbally retreated. "You know," Esme smiled deviously. "When I'm dead, what are you going to do? Take Claudey back from me?" Anna recoiled. "What did you call him?" "Claudey." Esme repeated. Anna scowled. "Don't you worry Esme. I know what I'm doing." "Do you?" "Yes." Then Anna stormed off. Her friends following just as angrily behind her. Esme then let out a long breath of air, holding her chest as she does so. "You were... Awesome!" I tell her, pulling her tightly into my arms. She smiles but takes my hand and holds it up to her chest, her heart. "It's beating really hard." She whispers close to my ears. "So scary." My heart beat starts kicking up just then, trying to match her pace. Except for a whole other reason. I pull her closer, encouraging her to lean on me. She does. "Although you were great, you should have let me handled it. I'm your boyfriend. It's my job to protect you." That made her laugh. "Yeah right." Then much to my displeasure, she pulled away. "Let's go the nurse. Like always, and I'm not surprised, we're late." I chuckled. "I wouldn't say always." "Always." © 2015 Rockel Mansaray |
