Chapter Twenty Three

The next day, I arrived to work much later than usual. In that extra time that I had, I slept. Today, felt as if to have too many demons swarming around. Dad was in my dreams again. He called out to me. It looked as if he were begging. Begging for what? I don't know, and quite frankly I don't want to know.

By the time I parked my car in my lot, my phone rang. To my utter disappointment, it was not Fay. Instead, it was Wenn. I was wondering whether he was going to call. He must be surprised that he woke up before me this time. I could let him bask in it but I decided to ignore him. Not picking up the phone, I slam my car door shut and slump into the building.

Apparently Wenn had spotted me at some point as I walked across the silent office. Everyone stared up at me expectantly. I didn't stare back all though their sudden interest in me made me curious. Wenn finally caught up to me. He grabbed my sleeves.

"What is it Wenn? What?"

I was in no mood for him right now. Wenn was like this annoyingly happy puppy. He's always happy no mater what. His constant enthusiasm is pissing me off right now.

"Go away, I've got a lot on my mind right now so just--"

"No, no wait. It's important. Thomas wants you. He's been waiting all morning. He's mad bro... "

"I bet." I mutter.

I dump my stuff on Wenn then head toward Thomas's office, getting the inevitable over with.

I knock first before slowly opening the door. With a carefree attitude, I approach Thomas. He sat gingerly in his seat, trying to look as if my earlier absence didn't bother him at all. The vain popping out of his temple, bulged at the sight of me. His efforts fell short.

"Nice to know that you can finally join me today Mr. List."

I nod before taking a seat before him.

"Yeah, really bad traffic." I reply sardonically.

"Traffic huh?"

I shrug, then sit up to face him.

"Can you just get to the point? Stop beating around the bush."

Thomas scowled.

"You see List, this kind of impatient, and defiant behavior of yours is whats going to get you fired."

"Oh yeah?" I ask snarky. "Then I apologize... sir. What is it you want?"

Thomas got out of his pristine seat and smirked.

He walked over to where I sat and made a show of twirling his gel pen with his fingers.

"I called you here, so I could fire you. Surely you would have expected this by now. You didn't do as I asked after all."

I glared back at him coldly.

"Don't give me that look List, you should know not to cross with me, just like my other employees Sorry List, I'm going to have to drop you.."

I rolled my eyes.

"So what? You want me to start packing my bags, just because you failed to use me as your con man? Do you know how immature that sounds? Some boss you are."

I cross my eyes and face around.

"You better watch your mouth Mr. List."

"Why? Didn't you just fire me? Quit twisting your own words, you two faced b*****d."

I start to get up, disappointed to leave, yet satisfied by the look of shock on his face.

Suddenly the door slammed open. A loud, boisterous voice filled the room.

"Well said Dom my man! Put that insistent b*****d in his place."

It was Gunther. He was dressed in all black, looking as if purposely trying to scare people with his appearance. Rings and clips that weren't there before, decorated his gaunt face. Though blond before, he did a good job at streaking his hair with black highlights then running some kind of gel through it. I'm surprised Thomas recognized him right away.

"Oh, Gunther, you-- your here." Thomas looked flustered.

"Yup, I'm here." Gunther says. "And, I'm here for Dom my man, not you old man, although I do have a proposition for you.

Thomas stumbled over himself. "Y-- yes, right, please..."

Thomas nervously leads him to the seat I was sitting on before I got up. Gunther gladly sat.

"So Dom?" he asked. "Did you do it?"

I looked at his stupidly for a couple of seconds before my brain came back to reality.

"Yeah, I did."

"Good." he tells me. "Don't forget to give to me before I leave."

I nod.

"As for you Thomas," Gunther started. "I couldn't help but noticed that you had just fired a fellow friend/acquaintance of mine. Hopefully it's not because of me declining you, is it? If it is then that would be a problem now wouldn't it. Especially when this young man over hasn't done anything in the wrong. In fact, Dominic had even went as far as to help me, with a personal matter of mine. Surely, his actions should be rewarded, especially after the proposition I'm about to make."

Thomas awaited his news eagerly.

"Shall I get into it now?" Gunther asked.

Thomas nodded.

"Please do."

"Okay," Gunther starts. "So you see, after years of years of you persisting, it only took a day for me to change my mind. Obviously it's because of you faithful and brutally honest employee over here."

They both look at me.

"Initially, what I'm trying to say is that yes, I accept your request."

I scoff at the way Thomas's eyes sparkled at this statement.

"But," Gunther added. "I do have some exceptions. If you don't agree, then feel free to never contact me again because I will not respond."

"Of course!" Thomas agreed. "Anything, what is you want?"

Gunther smirked.

"First of all, give this poor boy back his job, you brute. In fact give him a promotion. Double it."

I blink.

"Actually, no, If I'm going to be working here for the next few months, then I can't suffer. Promote him to my personal assistant. Also, we'll talk about splitting money percentages later. Keep in mind that I am my own boss. Don't think you can make money off of me either. I won't allow it. Are you writing this down?"

Thomas scrambles to look for paper.

"Yes, yes I'm writing, keep going." he says.

Gunther nods, but before continuing again, he addresses me.

"Dominic, this'll take a while, so why don't you go get that paper you wrote for me while I finish up with this guy, huh?"

I nod and smile back. "I'm on it."

I exit the room.
