Chapter 14A Chapter by Rockel MansarayChapter Fourteen We walked onto the court yard surrounded by suffocating scenery of green and many other colors. Fay, still hooked to my side, didn't fail to show how relieved she felt now that I was here talking to her in person instead of over the phone. "We have so much catching up to do." she excites. "It's kind of surprising really, I never thought we'd ever have a conversation anywhere else besides on the phone seeing how busy you always are and my prison check requirements." I chuckle at her blunt statement. "Speaking of prison, what are you going to tell that a*s guard of yours?" I ask. Fay briefly gave me a warning look before turning away to take out her phone. "He has a name you know." she reprimands. I roll my eyes. "And since when have you used it?" I shake my head at her hypocrisy as she blatantly ignores me and dials his number. She holds it up to her ear and waits nervously. She shifts from one feet to the other still holding her phone an inch away from her ear as if bracing herself for his deep, harsh, booming voice. The phone rings. We wait. Deny that she will, but I could have swore, I saw her jump when her dumb a*s fiance picked up. I watch her start to explain how that she might come home late, and smartly she fails to mention that i'm only standing only a few feet away from her after Greg himself told me to stay the hell away from her. I better hope he doesn't see into his threat he made. From where I stood, I couldn't hear his side of the conversation, but I can tell that he was yelling and what he was saying was frightening Fay pretty fiercely because the strong and sure voice she had when she greeted him had slowly become more faint and jittery. I clasp my fist together frustratingly as I watch Fay's face switch from a series of emotions. The loud, mumbled voice on the other end must have been to much for her because with Greg still yelling, Fay hung up. It wasn't until then that I realized Fay had been closing her eyes the whole time. She let out a deep breath which sounded to be staggering relief and tucked her phone back into her hand bag. "You okay? You look a little winded." She hasn't turned around yet but I can blatantly hear the fast puffs of breath escaping her lips. "Fay?" I reach a hand towards her but she flinches slightly and I quickly draw that hand away. She holds up and finger then bends down and rests her palms on her knees as if she having trouble breathing from a long and tiring jog. "Sorry," she apologizes in small little gasps. "I don't know, It's just... lately I get these little freeze ups and I feel like the air is getting thicker by the minute. It's weird." She stands up again. "It's nothing." "Nothing?!" I exclaim frustratingly. I shake my head at her again. "Bullshit, Fay. You know that's not true." Fay just shrugs and keeps walking. "Whatever." I quickly follow her fast, determined pace but just as i'm about to argue about how naive and stupid she was being, the sound of her phone ringing interrupts me. Fay freezes instantly, knowing it's Greg again. I can already feel the ice of fear spreading throughout her body. She fails to make any attempt in answering her phone as for being paralyzed in fear so I decided to f**k it all and answer for her. Fay watches me with shocked eyes as I pull her phone out of her purse and press the call button, pressing it to my ear. She doesn't try to to stop me though, proving to me how terrified she is of her own fiance. "Hey now look," I say into the phone. "If you don't quit acting like a f*****g dick to your girl, don't be surprised when she leaves you someone else!" I don't care if Greg realizes I'm here with her. The guy should go f**k himself. Like I give a s**t. The other end is silent. Maybe he's actually listening to someone else other than himself for once. Or probably planning different ways he can bash my head in. That somehow seems like a more probable choice. "Um... excuse me, uh... is this Fay?" My eyes stretch wide as I find that the voice on the other end belongs to a female other than a male. S**t. "Sorry, that little scene wasn't for you. I thought you were someone else. Also no, I'm not Fay, but this is her phone number and fortunately she's standing right next to me." I'm about to pass the phone over to a still frozen Fay, but the girl on the phone stops me before I can lift the speaker off my ear. "Wait!" she tells me. "Um... we're talking about the same Fay here right? Faylene Walkman?" "That's her." I confirm. The phone is silent suddenly. "Uh hello?" There's the sound of shuffling and scraping going on on the other side of the line and not until i'm just seconds away from hanging up that the lady speaks again. "Sorry," she says. "Gertrude's Inn on route 22. Tell her to meet me there." Suspicion is detected. "Why? Who are you?" "Who are you?" she repeats. Fair enough. "Dominic. I'm a good friend of Fay and as for right now her personal assistant. Now who are you?" "M'coy. Beatrice M'coy." she answers. I think. Why does that name sound familiar? I turn to face Fay to confirm this title. "Do you know a Beatrice?" Maybe it's the way she seemed to snap out of her shock faze at the mention of that name or how the words seemed to click together from the last conversation we had before we met up like this, but just as the words left my lips, I immediately knew who this Beatrice was. I don't even wait for Fay to confirm it before I pull out a pen and use my palm as paper. Into the phone I ask, "The address, can you repeat that?" © 2015 Rockel Mansaray |
