On the side of the road.

On the side of the road.

A Poem by Ron Braley
"

Just a thought about how "society" has made people scared to stop and help.

"

Broken down at the side of the road,

cell phone not working, I’m about to explode!

Just knowing as people pass by,

shaking their heads, saying “my, oh my!”

While I dream of going fishing,

and constantly wishing.

That one good Samaritan,

would stop and see if they can,

Help me in some way,

or to make my day!

The longer I wait in the ditch,

just knowing there are people who which,

Will continue to drive,

while I just hope to survive,

To get home in a hurry,

so that my family won’t worry!

It’s silly to think this I know,

but as my thoughts wander to and fro,

While they sit at home and watch TV,

If they will even miss me!

Oh well, I guess,

T’was me that got in this mess,

By texting a friend,

while going around a bend.

My phone in one hand,

I listen to a new band,

With the radio up loud,

singing along, so proud,

In a hurry to get to my house,

to be with my spouse.

Then out of the blue,

I hear, “can I help you?”

When I open my eyes,

I see these 3 wise guys!

My wife and my kids,

going, “wow, look what you did!”

Even though I’ll be home late tonight,

Cause of love, I’ll be alright!

So you a cellphone hero, well written anyway
have to admit to passing on my way to a fishing match.
