![]() Paul McGannA Story by Romana C Guillotte![]() Just a thought on a favorite actor of mine![]()
What exactly is it that I find so fascinating about Mr. McGann? Is it his cleft chin, slightly pouty lips, of kindly curly hair? Or is it that look of pain that can turn into a smile? No, it’s probably just the fact he played the doctor, only the best character in science fiction.
But Mr. McGann is also a source of inspiration – being both Johnny Button and Creeper in the Vixen Fire Saga I imagined. Johnny Button, who is a tragic gypsy in love with the heroine, and his alter ego, Creeper, the scheming type of drug runner that has more than a shady past. Both are confidants of the heroine, and both with tragic ends, (though who doesn’t in most my stories?)
For American audiences, his roles are few and far between: Fairy Tale: a true story, Withnail & I, bit parts in The Three Musketeers and Empire of the Sun. Heck, he was even in Alien 3. But he is best in Fairy Tale or ‘Doctor Who: The Movie’ that was on TV. So I guess America gets to do without, while us female Brit-o-philes get to keep one of our secrets. Him, along with Jack Davenport, Richard Armitage, Ioan Gruffudd, David Tennant, Richard E Grant, and the young Jeremy Irons.
Perhaps that’s why I like him so much, because he reminds me of England. I did see him outside the Dominion Theatre in 2003, after all. A fleeting glimpse at the talented, yet tortured soul of British TV movies.
*Sigh*
