I Present to YouA Poem by rollingstoneI wrote this poem for a contest theis spring, and I wanted to get away from the typical subject matter you get at this level.I Present to You By Rae Stone
I try to live this life One slow day at a time Some choices aren't the best But they're sure as heck mine I look back on all my days Try to learn from mistakes But I have no regrets I don't need a retake The chains of yesterday remain But they will hold me no more Tomorrow's full of possibility And today's an open door I have fought off this world To let the REAL me shine Because a battle you’ve won Yields a heart that’s divine You can’t let “them” define you That yields a heart that soon rots YOU have to take the reins, YOU have to call the shots One time I let others lead But lemme tell you- never again Because the moment you take action Is the moment life begins Don’t be held by yesterday Don’t be bound by tomorrow Just grasp the joys of right now, And let go of your sorrows When you start to feel trapped Like there’s no other way Just look the world in the eye And very firmly say: “Just try to stop me from livin' You'll fail, I guarantee I'm livin' life in the present I present to you: ME.” © 2011 rollingstoneAuthor's Note
