Birds of a Feather

Birds of a Feather

A Story by Rohit

There the king sat, on his golden throne with tens of thousands of cyclopes seated around him. “Bring in the swipplers!”, he croaked at the cyclopes. “And bring in that ‘filthy spitzwiggler Daedalus”. “Little did they know that I escaped my prison hours ago”, I thought grimly. I was not going to let that midget of a barbarian cut off those helpless little swipplers’ feathers just so he could fly! I had tried it myself once, and the feel of agony in its feathers! Today was my chance to repay all swippler-kind for the merciless murder of the swippler that night.

The king was alone, unprotected, or so I thought. I tried flying in straight through, but to no avail. Until I saw the little latch which controlled the invisible wall! I lunged in straight for the king. He fought like a lion. I noticed he was a jack of all trades. He was trained only a bit in each of the three sacred defensive arts; Karate, Kung Fu, and Jiu-Jitsu, but eventually, I managed to take him down. I tied him up with the platinum cords I “borrowed”. We flew up to the clouds. I placed him on one of the clouds and took off with robes disguised as him. Once I was back at the palace, I waited for the cyclopes. Once they were there, I ordered the cyclopes to free the swipplers, and they obeyed me as they were mindless creatures doing whatever their master told them to, but they were quite brilliant blacksmiths. The very moment they released them, me and the swipplers flew off, through the ceiling, never to be seen again. Although up to this day I still wonder what happened to that king, whether he is still there gagged up on the cloud or some friendly, wind spirit came along and freed him and he’s now putting out search parties for me and the swipplers. I wonder ...
