Still repeatedly swiping that card
blaming the worn magnetic strip
Never once has it occurred to you

Author's Note

Rogue
When the past comes knocking...
This is about a (real life) monster I have written about in other pieces that destroyed both myself and my life. And yet... Even now on occasion, due to circumstances, I have to have dealings with him.

Well done! I love the analogy between bank accounts and relationships. I also love that another equally fair reading could be opportunities lost for any of a number of reasons. The self-delusion and denial are well expressed in such a concise and tight piece.
A pleasure to read this.

old lovers can bankrupt our hearts if don't close them out...

that strip was worn out a long time ago...

this is a really clever metaphor...and your poetry is an open account of excellent wording...

i also notice that you are so unselfish...and review so freely...lots of support to your fellow poets!

A rare kind of analogy for an all-out giver.

Sometimes we just have to learn to say "no".
Thank you, Belle. :)
Powerful! So much said in so few words. And what a metaphor!

Sorry I missed this. Thank you, I appreciate you reading. :)
The old "insufficient love" message we fear when we make that transaction. We don't put any money back in but we come back and try it again in hopes that somehow there will have been a bank error or something. But you only get out of it what you put into it and some people are only good at taking. A sad but an appropriate metaphor for love and relationships. Very creative of you Rogue. I am a fan.

I've been through this in a way as well. This poem really says a lot with so few words. Good work :)

Well done analogy here, Rogue - some people can never accept that things are simply not what they used to be, and that they bear some responsibility...

Thank you, Rita. :) Seems it is hard for some people to understand that.
Some people just don't get it! There is a way to just deal with the things you have to deal with without getting too close. I have seen my dovorced friends war with their exes just because they still breathe. It is a power drainer! Angi~
