As the day fades and the mind slows
suddenly I am conjured up again.
Were you bored?
Maybe lonely?
Did you just need to feel a touch?
Know that someone cares?
In the bright light of morning I am discarded
behind a million other things that take precedence.
Where do I fit in here?
What is my worth?
Eventually you'll get to me, right?
Number 999 on the 'to do' list?
Ouch! The grim realization of the fact that we are merely bit players, often uncreditied, in the movies of other's lives. A painfiul realization.
This is open to so many interpretations and I for one love that in a poem. It could be the lover on the side, it could be the friend who is rarely called, it could be any one of a million people.
Well structured, well thought out and well written. Thank you for sharing this.

I heave definitely felt this way and am sure I have made others feel the same to be honest. I tend to think it is more than an afterthought that brings them back to me though - they are usually after something - lol. Never hear from my daughter until she needs something type of thing. Nice "experiment" rogue.

Oh my.. how many of us feel like that at times but, can't put the hopelessness in such a concise yet moving way. It's hard to sit in shadows, just waiting .. harder still to walk away with a little pride remaining. A superbly etched picture of how life can sometimes be. Thank you.

Thank you, Emma for both the thoughts and lovely review. :)
Rogue, its always a pleasure to read your poetry and stories, what a terrible feeling it can be to think that we are an after thought-tenderly from the heart. Good work.

Thank you, Will. I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this one. :)
you can't always be your significant other's number one, but , ideally, it would be fitting in a good relationship. if i play second fiddle long enough i leave the orchestra and find another band to play with. nicely penned, Rogue.

yes, Scarlett, after all, tomorrow is another day!
What can I say? I enjoy writing.
