Do you remember the original Faces of Death movies? One of them showed the people in the restaurant and they took the Mallory's and pounded on the little monkeys head, that was trapped by the neck in the center if the table, to get at his brains to eat? -shakes head-

In a way, it rather begs a question to ponder as we are taught to eat our own is a crime against nature. And yet.. Here is something wholly from nature and natural (not restricted by our fictates, hangups, religions, etc) doing that very thing.. So, what is the truth of things?

Not really a crime against nature. There are raptors who habitually eat other birds. Some as carrion. Some eat their own young. Its whatever keeps you alive. Its also the rules we humans erroniously apply that is certainly true.

I admit to having been ignorant to the bird eats bird thing. I know hunters such as Peregrines knock them out and stun them and in that the other bird can die in the fall and landing. But really had no thought to the eating of one another. I have several hawks, owls, a ton of black birds and quite a few smaller species of bird in my trees. Occasionally a bird will pass on and lay in the grass and decay unless an opossum comes along.

Peregrines are exclusively bird hunters. So is the European Sparrowhawk. Male and female raptors are usually different sizes. The female being larger. One reason for this is so they may go after different sized prey during the breeding season.
It still doesn't alter the gist of your write and the wonderful use of a metaphor.

The title is unique and different for it drew me in to a great allegory on how some people feed off or live off the misery of others and they are not happy until they feast on their happiness for they are miserable themselves and want to bring people to their knees to wallow on the past wrongs and above all take revenge to satisfy their great egos...
I feel a shaking of head here or horror watching people doing that to others...

Ours are fairly timid usually, since the blackbirds here outnumber them 10 to 1. Blackbirds can be vicious.
