Pedestal

Pedestal

A Poem by Rogue

You pushed me up so high
My fingertips touched the sky

You wouldn't bring me back down
To be like those on the ground

I'm not the perfect person you believe
I too know tricks and deceive

No-one's allowed to be so great
It only filled them with hate

An inevitable disaster from the start
Their greedy hands pulled me apart

A sad ending for your Saint
Not one voice raised in complaint

Simply their laughter and their jeers
Yet I had cared all those years

A battered soul filled with grief
Shattered faith and belief

I've fallin.

"You pushed me up so high" Right from the start we are faced with a certain ambiguity... Was that push a good, or a bad thing... Love how this one unfolds, layers of doubts leading to that poignant ending... I have to be honest, that was a difficult one to read, not because it's not beautifully written (it is!), but because of the echoes that are found within.

Thank you, JP. It was difficult to write as well. It is just where my head was at in that moment.

Very descriptive write ! Is this a reflection of your being put up on a unsustainable pedestal ? ....doomed for disappointing someone because the pedestal is too high and unsustainable for any human being ? You do a very nicely in identifying this "trap".... Thank you for it. You always seem to do a very excellent job on what is your motivating theme, I think !

I could be wrong but a pedestal is a metaphor for greatness that you strive for and to reach it you resort to tricks and deceptions like the famous bicyclist that fell from grace with his doping charges by using lies now and threats. Now the joke is on us when we fall down from our high place for that pedestal was not built on solid ground.
Another of your good writes and well penned ones.
Also I can take pedestal as the ego that makes us haughty and arrogant...:)
