I think of that as letting the mind "coast," or "free wheel," and some psychologist might be able to offer an explanation for it, not that it needs it. When we spend hours drowning worms on a hook, we call it "fishing," but I suspect it would be no less enjoyable if we called it something else. (That's a fabulous car--looks part '57 Chevy, part '59 Buick and possibly built from a late model T-bird)
