A Poem by Panhead Rod
"

A prose reflecting how essential a morning cup of coffee is to us working fools.

"
...
A dull light reflects...
off the river...
as I drive by... at 5 in the morning...
under a bottom quarter moon,
on my way to work...
...
Wondering Why?
Been working 50 years...
Nothing to show for it,
except scars and a sore back.
...
Pulling into the driveway...
heading down to the mill...
where I work...
Located on the Northside...
of coastal mountains,
the same ice from 3 days ago...
crystallized...Sparkling at me...
reflecting my headlights...
I think... Cool !
but only for a moment.
...
Temperature in the low 20's...
15 degrees colder...
than at my home...
22 miles west of here...
on the Pacific Coast...
...
As I get out of my truck...
heading into the shop...
being careful not to slip...
Clouds of mist appear...
with every breath exhaled...
Bright driveway lights...
make the clouds dance...
as they rise to the Heavens...
Putting on a show...
Failing to entertain me...
...
Walking inside...
the room is filled with noise,
as the diesel burning space heater...
growls... loudly...
Looking into it...
it's open face glows...
a brilliant roasting orange...
...more of life...
that I might enjoy...
in a different circumstance.
...
Finally...
the only thing I always enjoy...
no matter when or where...
The fuel that keeps me going...
Nothing beats the flavor...
of the first morning sip...
of a nice hot cup of coffee...
reloading me...
...
