Everyone wears a mask

Everyone wears a mask

A Poem by Robyn

Everyone wears a mask,
to hide their
true feelings
and who they
really are.

When she took her mask off
the perfect girl
was gone...
She wasn't pretty...
She wasn't popular...
She wasn't happy...
She wasn't perfect...

Who are you
when you take your mask off?

i think we are much more interesting without the mask...your poetry is so easy to relate to...
i remember high school days...being around certain people trying to act like i felt they wanted me to...so that i would be accepted...
but i found eventually that taking the mask off was the best thing i ever did....became comfortable in my own personality....and found better and longer lasting friendships...
your question at the end of the poem makes us stop and think....yes, who are we?

This brief, clearly worded poem states an important truth. We all wear masks we have created over the years to hide who we really are. In some cases this is good, because we all have thoughts and feelings that could be harmful to others, but in other cases the masks keep us separated from others because of the fear that we aren't good enough. Implied is the need for self acceptance, which will decrease the need for masks. Good insight shown in this one.
