Write Between the EyesA Poem by Robert GagnonInsight into my process of writing a poem, not the whole story but pieces of itUnsettling music Underneath the skin Scratched Until it is ripped open Bursting Now Eating through the ear Ceaseless movements start Bringing hips Round and round Bending knees Up and down Performing On the blank sand Striking form In the canvas Of chopped earth Granular Separate Sweat to bind them A spell is spoken Twisted Into a wooden dagger Plunged Into the living Splintered within Leaking symphonies Round the hilt Old sharp wooden pins Tweaking when posture Is sluggish Freckled features Make for good Traceable stories Which you can bring back To a point in time And declare that moment Magic Yet the quiet is disorienting Unfamiliar space Full in future Existing As a folded work of art Not present in past Too compact to be seen In the present What makes you unravel Sopping wet feet Slapping concrete Marking linear The uncontained melody In all this dripping Building up Colored currents Wiggling fingers Coaxing To manipulate shapes Of white hot power and Push them At cool plains To make Soaking wet passionate pleas For understanding Recognition Inspirational Spellbound shelved fantasies Pulled down By hurled sticky entrails From sacrificed tissue Of the gods Between the eyes Of man © 2017 Robert Gagnon |
