Light Their Way Home

Light Their Way Home

A Poem by Rob Schnepp
"

In a time before there were stars, Baby Rock wonders off into space on his own. Brother Rock goes to find him but they both get lost... How will they find their way home? The Sun has the answer.

"

Look at all the stars in the sky, aren't they beautiful, way up high?

Did you ever wonder how they came to be? Let me tell you, listen to me....

Try to imagine a sky without stars, just hundreds of rocks, with faces like ours

Rocks that are happy... Rocks that are sad.....Rocks that are busy.....And rocks that are mad..

But it's with one little rock where we begin this tale, Little Baby Rock, and his story we'll tell

One day, Baby Rock wonders off into space, all on his own, out of mummy's embrace.

He goes past the Moon, who tries to ask "why.....?" But it's too late, Baby's carried on by.

He wanders past Saturn, who looks quite concerned, but Baby goes past, when will he learn?

To the Milky Way, who stops him to ask, but again it's too late, Baby's gone past.

Now Mama Rock sees that Baby Rocks missing, "Where is my baby? Please someone listen!"

Brother Rock answers, bravely and strong; "I'll find him Mama, it won't take me long!"

He first asks the Moon, who saw him go by, "He went towards Saturn" was his reply.

He then asked Saturn "I saw him go past...Towards the Milky Way, it's him you should ask"

The Milky Way pointed, his hand like a gun, "that way I think.... Towards the Sun"

Now he finds Baby, keeping warm by the Sun, not knowing his error, he's just having fun.

He looks back into space, but now it's all dark, no path, no light - just rocks looking stark.

The Sun sees his worry, and has an idea - he thinks of a way to make their path clear.

He gathers the rocks, and talks full of glee, he tells his idea, to which they agree.

He then touches one who catches alight, what once was so dark, now becomes bright!

Once shining brightly, the rest come behind, they all touch each other, and all start to shine!

Brother looks out, and now he can see! Saturn, the Moon, but most importantly...

He can see the way home.

And that is how the Stars came to be, all to help that little Baby

The Sun is not out at night any more, now the stars light the sky, that were rocks before

The next time you look up to the stars at night, think of a time when it wasn't light

And Baby and Brother who came out alone, and then of their plan.... to light their way home.

It is interesting and creative though maybe not necessarily my taste. Moreover it needs some structural revise since you've chosen the lines to rhyme. Some lines read too long, some words don't match the scheme, they don't fit in the frame and make it a clumsy read.
