Meeting fate

Meeting fate

A Poem by Rob Funk

L.t says we are going to hit this place,

Fear upon his face,

In the darkness,

Looking around with night vision,

Upon the road the enemy has but 1 mission,

Cordon off the area,

This s**t is worse than malaria,

Lined up outside,

Who have known this mission is suicide,

Allah Akbar comes from the house,

On the stairs,

The weapon screams,

Now its all of my dreams,

Its over or so it seems,

Welcome home,

Your not the same they scream,

I never left,

From my eyes,

Darkness beams,

Everyone dies,

Sick of all the lies

An impeccable depiction of a soldiers emotion.... "Your not the same they scream, I never left," just what kind of darkness could ever be as bitter as that witnessed in war.

Change ah yes and with change good and bad usually comes some form of deception whether self-deception or otherwise. Understanding when people are going through such traumatic times is what more of us need to have, instead of placing blame. This really hit home for me. Great write!
