An Unexpected Journy

An Unexpected Journy

A Chapter by Rn551v

Ok I have no idea how the hell it happened, but there I was standing before the leader of the USSR, gun in hand. Two guards were at either side of me holding me by my shoulders, surely leaving bruises; my two friends screaming and begging for them to let me go.  I had no idea what I had done, all I knew was how I got to this place by accident, and now going to be killed...

It all started one afternoon after I arrived at a friend's house for a party; I was a bit early, my friend not being home, so I sat on the padio. I waited until his parents arrived to their home. A black truck pulled up into the drive way; and my friend's mother emerged from the truck and greeted me with a smile. We exchanged hellos as she unlocked the front door. "Sam wont be here for a little while, so make yourself at home," his mom said with a smile. I sat down on the couch, tempted to prop my feet up on the coffee table, but I held back the urge knowing I had my work boots on and the bottom of my boots had mud caked onto them. I sighed and slouched down on the sofa and waited for the other guests to arrive.

Finally, a girl and her older sister walked up to the house and let themselves in, they lived only a block away. "Hey, City!" I smiled even though I hated the nickname everyone called me. My name was Felicity, but everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, called me City. I stood up and replied, "Hey, Misa." Misa's older sister crossed her arms, "I don't get a hello?" I laughed, "Hey, Nadili!" All of us girls giggled in our girlie way and went outside just in time for my friend's aunt to pull up to the curb; her, her son, his friend, and girlfriend got out of the car. "City can you help get these things out of the car-?" Her son cut in, "No, we got it!" She sighed shaking her head, her smile never leaving her face, as the two boys, Sean and Lawarnce, got the bags holding containers of food, and brought them in.

Soon nearly everyone had arrived, making thirteen youth and three adults. A girl named Kimi came up to me, "City, do you know where Sam is?" The feeling of anger slapped me hard in the face and I thought, 'Now why did she have to go and worry about where he is? He's most likely out with his dad.' "No, do you?" I tried to make my voice not so low as it usually does when I get in a sour mood. She instantly whipped out her phone, and walked away texting, 'Ugh! You little-' A jab in the crook of my neck instantly stopped my thoughts and I yelped, knowing who it was after a few milliseconds, "SAM!!" I turned around to see his face smiling, "Why do you always tense up like that?" his voice was unique, and sounded like he was fighting stuttering but no stuttering occurred, ever. Maybe he had a speech impairment at one point of his life? "Sam you-!" I finished my sentence by hitting him on the shoulder, making a 'rrrh' sound progressively getting louder as hit him, and grit my teeth. People looked in our direction wondering what all the yelling was about. My face turned red with embarrassment due to all the stairs Sam and I were getting.

Kimi walked up to us, more like charged, and greeted Sam like she hadn't seen him in years. 'Love starved bi-' Again... My negative thoughts were interrupted by Sam hugging me for a split second then letting go to say something in this ridiculous Italian, German, Russian mix accent. I sighed letting a little smile slip to my lips and I walked off so Kimi and Sam could get their thing over with. I was angry but smiling and I didn't know why, 'How in the hell can he make me smile every time I look at him? Doofus...'  I laughed to my self as I sat down in one of the chairs, not getting any of the food served, as usual. Sam got in the small line for food along with Kimi, and like usual he turned to me and said, "Your gonna eat, I swear I'm going to force feed you," then went along getting a little of everything skipping the salad. I wasn't anorexic I was far, and I mean far, away from that. I felt I had something wrong with me, for some reason I feel sick when I'm around groups of people, so I don't eat.

Every one finished eating, Sam's parents shooed us out of the house and into the back yard, me following in the back always the third wheel, closing the sliding glass door behind me as I stepped onto the back padio. Football was the game of choice once everyone got outside, I didn't want to play. I walked over to the little swing set and picnic bench Sam's family had for his niece. Sitting down on the picnic bench, on the table part my feet barely reaching the ground, 'Maybe I am short,' I thought thinking back to school and how Sam and I would walk side by side after lunch going back to class, and he would say, "Your so short," then I would hit him and say something that opposed to his remark. My thoughts started drifting off to the story I was writing for the movie Sam said he and I should make, it was about a German boy and a Russian girl being a part of an ancient royalty and how the world's government wanted them dead. We had settled that it was best to do it in modern times, rather than WW2 or the Cold War era, too extensive and where were we going to get the snow for Russia's winters? It almost never snows here and when it does it doesn't stick, so we decided that they would run away to Oklahoma, find each other there, and run under the radar.

I must have been really deep in thought to not notice that Sam and Kimi came into the little area, and now were trying to get my attention, "What?" I said in a rather light tone, "You were spacing out, Felicity," Sam said. I went silent for a few seconds trying to figure out what was wrong with what he said, it just didn't seem right. He said my name. He said my full name, not City. "Why did you say my name?" I said narrowing my eyes, no one ever said my full name, only when my mom was angry with me or there was a substitute teacher. Sam shook his head, "No reason," Kimi giggled at this and I shot her a dirty look, but to my displeasure, she didn't notice. "What do you two want?"I said becoming agitated. Sam made the face he usually does when he can't think of what to say. I was about to say something incredibly rude, until I heard this faint beeping noise. It was just barely under my hearing abilities, very faint, but still audible, "Do you hear that?"  "Yeah! You hear that too? Do you hear that Sam?" Kimi said.  I rolled my eyes, "Yeah, What's making that noise?" He said, as they both checked their phones; I looked behind me barely seeing what looked like an empty soda can, I didn't know what it was, it was too blurry. 'Damn I should really start wearing my glasses.'

I got up to investigate and the 'couple' followed close behind; I picked it up and the beeping grew louder when I pulled it out of the ground. It looked like a steel pipe, only half a foot long, I turned it over in my hands and saw a small monitor screen, like a digital clock, it read

   St.Petersburg, Russia 1929

"S T Petersburg, Russia 1,929?" Kimi said and Sam scratched the back of his head. I looked at it for a long time then something clicked in the small rod like container. "1929 is during the time Stalin ruled the USSR..." I said trying to understand what was going on. Sam touched my shoulder when the thing started beeping like crazy. Kimi grabbed Sam's arm trying to pull him away saying, "Sam we gatta git away from that thing!" Sam tried to pull me away from it, but I couldn't let go of it, I physically could not let go of it. "Felicity let go of that thing!" He yelled over the loud beeping, and I replied back, "I can't!!" At this point I started to panic as I began to have tunnel vision, I faintly heard Kimi say, "Oh god I'm seeing, like down a... down... a..." Her voice being drowned out by a loud ringing in my ears. I faintly heard Sam's voice in the same state as Kimi's, then everything went black.

Its good! I am glad more and more is coming out about the characters. I like Felicity as a character. I am new to this whole thing so I know I am not going to be as helpful of reviews as some others. Other than saying I like it, which doesn't really help. I know with myself I find it kinda hard to slow down and add more details weather its adding fuller description of place settings or more intimate insight in to characters. I don't know if I am helping, I do like it and I want to know more.
