SOUNDS IN THE NIGHT

SOUNDS IN THE NIGHT

A Poem by SJ Mullins

There is a hidden world in the night
That most people never see
They stay quite busy with their lives
Never seeming to have time that’s free

I crack my window when I go to bed
So I can listen to the sounds in the night
As I listen to them, I am lulled to sleep
Even with the moon shining bright

So sad to think some don’t like the dark
That holds in it so much beauty
The stars twinkle brightly in the sky
The man in the moon does his duty

Across the waters, the moon glimmers
Toads are croaking, coyotes are howling
The nocturnal owl hoots in the night
Foxes are screaming, the bobcats are prowling

Squirrels are chattering while pigeons coo
This orchestra plays nightly serenades
As I drift off to sleep listening to nature’s songs
Some animals find sleep in grass blades

I awaken soon to morning’s first light
I am ready to start my day
I’m feeling refreshed and ready to go
How I wish for all, it could be so

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! This might be my favorite poem of yours that I've read so far! This is such a great message & I relate to it strongly. I love the night sounds, living in the country. You've offered awesome detail thru-out, many of the very things I love listening for & sometimes hearing. I also find the wilderness nights to be very restful for many of the same reasons! I love that you captured this so perfectly.

i do this too...just turn everything off, tv, stereo...and listen to the night sounds---
a great place to be, in that zone..and i do wonder...does the man in the moon punch a time clock?

I've never found night sounds to work for me. I can sleep with a fan on but that' it.

I like the poem, nicely done. :)

You're lucky. I hear people yelling in the summer.
