MY TAKE ON OZ

MY TAKE ON OZ

A Poem by SJ Mullins

Many days I'd like to be Dorothy

and my life be just a dream

I'm so tired of this darkness

and living in the extreme

I need to be the scarecrow

so I won't have a brain

then perhaps I won't remember

that society deems me insane

I need to be the tin man

so I won't have a heart

I'm so tired of it being broken

and my world torn apart

I need to be the lion

so I will not have the courage

to tell people how I truly feel

only to listen to them discourage

I need to be the wicked witch

looking into my crystal ball

that'll show me where life's pitfalls are

to avoid another bad fall

I need to be like Auntie Em

comforting, loving, and concerned

doing my best not to let others down

since I know how it feels to get burned

I need to be the wizard

so I could make everything alright

but that is not my job, it's God's

for He is our true light
