Dissipate//Elliminate//Recreate (Chapter One part 2)A Chapter by TwoTailedTabbyMaxii and his younger partner, Peter are faced with another member of their organization, but they aren't the happiest.
Peter begged softly, trying hard to make sure that only Maxii heard. “Please, Please Maxii! It’s not safe here!!” His eyes were watering; he was so close to crying from fear. His body was shuddering and his eyes closed tightly. Maxii shook his head, his eyes staring apologetically at the boy.
“Abbey,” He stated angrily, making sure she knew his patience was thin.
Abbey stared at Maxii with an amused and sadistic smile. “Okay then. Let’s get this done with.” She leaned on the alley wall and then continued. “He has been watching you. He is amused with your antics but is not impressed.” She paused, smirking as Peter seemed to shrink behind Maxii. “Get more progress done or you will be removed and eliminated.” She smiled as she finished, her listeners flinched at her words. She then slid back into the darkness, disappearing completely.
An uncomfortable silence shrouded both of the boys in darkness. Peter was the first to break the muteness. “Let’s continue with the mission, okay?” He gently pushed Maxii’s hand out of his path and started to walk. His head was turned slightly to the side in an effort to see if his comrade was coming. Maxii soon recovered from the information received earlier as he turned to follow his younger partner. Maxii ran his hand through his slick black hair, in frustration and by habit. It was a strange thing he did to calm himself when he was younger and now at the age of twenty-one, he did it subconsciously. He was only three years older than Peter and over the years had adapted to his life with Peter. He slowly began to take on the role of big brother in Peter’s life. Peter noticed what role Maxii wanted to take and accepted it happily.
Peter was a young, blond haired eighteen year old young man and was very intelligent. He had a very happy life in the recent years he had joined the group Maxii and he worked at. He hadn’t really joined the group willingly, not that he wouldn’t wanted to but at that time they found him, he had no choice. He was found half-dead and bloody near a burning house. He was only fourteen at the time. The attack on him had cost him his memories; they were gone forever. He had lost his parents in the house fire and was all alone in the world. He was saved by a member of the small but soon to be huge group. He was raised at the group and soon joined it four years later. This was the same year he was partnered with Maxii. Once you join the ‘New Order’ (the name of the group) you were unable to quit. You may have been friends with the people in the New Order before you joined, but after you join, you are nothing. You are no longer friends with them. They make it seem like you never met them. They ask for your name multiple times even though you have already told them but…that was before you joined. An emotion between operatives was against the rules. Only the ultimate highest in rank were allowed to even show emotion.
Peter and Maxii had easily gotten this rank in less than a year, both the youngest team workers and most effective in missions. This mission was strange though. It made Peter act more comfortable and silly which was unacceptable in the New Order in a mission.
This thought made Maxii stumble over his feet, making a smile appear on Peter’s face. Maxii wanted to test this new theory.
“Peter?” He started, his footsteps slowing so that he and Peter could talk. Peter’s head turned slightly in order to stare curiously at Maxii before his body turned completely towards his friend. “Excuse me for asking if this question makes you uncomfortable.” He let out a shaky sigh.
Peter showed a concerned face at Maxii. “Is something the matter, Maxii?”
“There is something that I think is troublesome. It has something to do with you.”
Peter showed confusion in an unintelligent grunt as he started to move again.
“I am worried about your behavior in our previous information gathering mission.” Maxii looked softly at Peter as he finished. “You act a bit more…more…” He found that he couldn’t remember the word that fit his description of Peter’s act.
“Happy?” Peter suggested he had stopped moving away from Maxii. “Have you forgotten that word? It is saddening that the group has affected you this much…” Peter expression became cold and serious as he turned towards his partner. He calmly walked towards Maxii and grasped his wrist violently. “If you want me to act this way always, so be it. We are leaving”
Maxii was surprised with Peter’s change in behavior before smiling. He had wanted this to happen. His rage and roughness was Peter’s way of saying he understood what he had done and that he would try and fix it. The next day would be better, he was sure of it. His pace soon matched his partners as both of them ran into the night.
“We’re home!” Rang the loud voice of Demetri as he opened the door of their home, almost shutting it on Caleb.
Datara, who used to be sleeping until a few moments ago glared at the returning duo. He grumbled something unintelligent and lie back onto the side of the wall. Reminding him again that he needed to get more blankets for the house.
Lily smiled at Demetri as he approached her. He was also smiling until he opened his mouth to speak, before he actually did so he turned to leer at Caleb who was drowsily lying himself down. His head was dropping occasionally only for it to jolt back up, proving that he was fighting for consciousness.
“Uh, oh. Seems like you had a little fight with someone?” Lily suggested.
“I want to warn you, Lily” Demetri started, a sad gleam in his indigo eyes. “Caleb and I, I sense that we will be changing very, very soon. Our personalities will change drastically.” He stared sadly at Caleb who had dozed off moments ago. “Caleb has already been affected by the attack. I fear that soon I will too change.” Demetri glanced back up at Lily, waiting patiently for her reaction.
Lily smiled sadly at her little brother and patted him softly on the back. “Should we leave? I better question would be…Do you want to leave?”
Demetri stared at Lily for a moment, his immediate answer should have been ‘yes’ but as he opened his mouth no sound came out. ‘I want to stay here. He is here. He is safer.’ A voice inside him argued loudly in his mind. He shook his head in an attempt to make the voice go away. The voice got even louder. ‘Stay here, I wish to stay here. I WANT TO STAY!’ The voice howled in his mind, making it so hard to concentrate, he was ripping his hair out.
Lily alarmed, grabbed Demetri’s shoulders and shook him roughly, trying desperately to snap him out of whatever trance he was in. Finally Demetri snapped out of the crazed state he was in. He cleared his throat softly and whispered hoarsely “I don’t think you should ask me that question. I have already been affected. I apologize in advance for my future actions.” Demetri spoke seriously, his once happy-go-lucky demeanor now forgotten. He had fully accepted what was bound to happen, to him, there was no other way out. Caleb had rejected the whole idea of him changing even though the alteration of his regular behavior was highly evident. Demetri was upset by the entire fact that he was beaten so easily by his impulses. “Lily. If I try to run away, I want you to stop me in any way possible.” His defeated voice was enough to make Datara stir from his slumber. He was silent though because he knew that if they knew he was awake they would probably not continue their conversation.
Lily raised a brow, smiling in a disbelieving way. “What do you mean by that? Do you wish for us to use force or-“
“-Yes.” Demetri cut her off. He then added. “-And if I get too dangerous I would like for you to kill me.”
Lily’s eyes widened. “I-I can’t do that.” She stuttered, hand ghosting over the wall for balance.
“You have to promise me! If things get bad enough, you must.”
Lily nodded solemnly as her head slowly drooped downwards. “Should we inform the others?”
Demetri just shook his head. His eyes were blank. His expression was emotionless. He had truly given up on the fact that he might recover. The possibility that he might actually not be affected by the serum both he and Caleb were injected with. Lily patted his back in a reassuring way but Demetri shrugged her hand off. The last thing he wanted was pity.
Maxii stood beside a red-painted door, body leaned on the wall as he stared up at the ceiling. He then heard a voice from inside the room. Then another voice, more distressed than the first. There was a long agonizing silence before a scream rang out through the door and was heard by all in the building. Another silence issued. Scuffling of objects was heard as well. Soon the door-knob turned revealing a frightened Peter. Peter closed the door softly and stepped away unsteadily from the door.
“Are you going to be okay? What did they say? Did they harm you? Did they—“
“—I’m Fine.” Peter spoke quietly. “They told me to stop fooling around is all, nothing else.”
Maxii looked disapprovingly at Peter before saying “Don’t lie to me, Peter. I heard you scream, something else happened.”
“They just scared me. Threatened to send me back into the darkness. They sent me there for a few seconds, but it seemed like hours…” Peter started walking down the hallway, stopping at the stairs. “Just motivation to get me back on track, I suppose.” Peter smiled softly at Maxii, his eyes hiding his true emotion.
“Is that what you really think?” Maxii asked sadly.
“It doesn’t really matter does it? We need to complete the mission as soon as possible.” Peter said quickly, holding the door to the stairs open for Maxii to get through. Maxii was not pleased with his response but went down the stairs.
They went down the stairs until they came to a door that was painted bright purple. This door led to the rooms of the employees of the New Order. Once you were scolded or punished by the council of the New Order you were on 1 day probation. At that time, you were to stay in your room and prepare for the oncoming day. Peter thought this was similar to the method of grounding that some parents do, only a bit more strict than parenting. Peter and Maxii walked quietly through the halls, careful not to disturb the other members. It was eleven o’ clock at night and most not working members slept at this time. The New Order had a very complex working schedule that differed from every member. Some of the members slept at day and worked at night and some worked at the opposite of that schedule. It was the usefulness of the worker that truly sculpted the whole arrangement. The more useful the worker, the more work-time that worker gets and more rewards are given to that worker. The less useful, the less work, less rewards and less respect from other members. High ranking members may only have high respect from others that make them high ranking and not the usefulness. Even though they have high respect, they are still considered less useful and are treated as such. The duo was dangling between the useful rankings; they had their share of unsuccessful missions and impressive accomplishments. As they quietly stepped towards their room Peter paused and turned sideways. Maxii stopped as well and turned the same direction Peter was facing. There stood Abbey, standing smirking at the partners.
“Did you enjoy the little meeting you had with the council…?” She said it slowly and happily, mocking the fact that Peter had a horrible encounter there.
“Abbey, please leave us be.” Maxii begged as he saw Peter tense up in anger.
“No, Maxii. Let her speak.” Peter argued through clenched teeth, he then said. “Go ahead Abbey.”
Abbey smirked at the team’s uncoordinated actions. “Oh? You two seem so out of synch today. That’s too bad.” She purred evilly, her eyes squinting ever so slightly. “Aw. The small one is getting angry.”
Peter bristled at her insult his anger rising ten-fold. “Shut up, Abbey…!” His body shook angrily, his eyes narrowed with fury. Maxii gently laid his hand on Peter’s shoulder, trying to calm him down.
Peter shook him off roughly. “Tahu deiio onda kureik meerl juufd” He chanted in whispered tone, but loud enough so that both of the people by him heard. A haunting white aura surrounded Peter as his arms raised, the palms of his hands facing Abbey. He then repeated that first chant, the aura flowing towards his hands.
Maxii growled fearfully at Peter. “Don’t cast anything in here! Peter!? Peter…? Pe-peter….” His body suddenly became heavy as the aura started to surround his body as well. “Peter….no…wait….your…..it’s too……much…..” He struggled to speak as the aura became thicker around him, suffocating him in its power. Slowly, darkness started to creep into his vision. As the pain increased in his body, he allowed the darkness to swallow him and he lost consciousness.
Peter didn’t seem to notice his partner lose consciousness as his anger and focus was directed towards Abbey. She was smiling happily at Maxii and then she turned her gaze to Peter.
“Sorry, honey. Even though it was…amusing to watch you hurt your own team mate, I must go.” Her body slowly melded with the shadows and she left laughing “Ta-Ta, young Peter.”
Since his object of anger was gone, his anger faded quite quickly as did the aura and spell. He was then expecting to be scolded by his partner, but that never came. He waited a few more seconds before turning to his side. Once he saw his fallen partner, he immediately remembered what the aura had done to his innocent partner. He went to check Maxii’s pulse and noticed that he could feel none. Panicking, he went to check it again before realizing something. Smiling to himself at his stupidity he grabbed the keys from Maxii’s hand and unlocked the door. He tried to gently carry Maxii into the room. Keyword: Tried. He ended up having to drag the older boy into the room.
He put Maxii on his bed and laid in his own. He turned off the light beside his bed and stared at the ceiling. He was going to apologize to Maxii later. He was thinking about resigning for a while now. This incident was one of the many things that happened because of his lack of self-control. He was extremely disappointed in himself for doing something like this to his partner. Maxii would not like to hear that he was considering retirement because of the mistakes he has made in the past. This was probably because once you retired from the New Order or even if you got fired, they wouldn’t just let you go free. No, they wouldn’t. It’s a horrible group to join especially if you are a kind person at heart. Maxii and Peter were once kind-hearted but that was before they joined. New Order was a place that demanded that you do cold things almost every time you went on one of their missions. Even the kindest were turned into heartless monsters a few days after they joined. It was one of the few things the council liked about their organization, how easily they can control their members. Once they gave into the fact that they were trapped in this organization, their will faded and they became mindless drones. The weird thing about it was is that the members who refused to give into that fact were the most successful members, a great example of Maxii and Peter.
Maxii let out a soft groan as he turned onto his side, pain evident on his pale sweaty face.
Peter rubbed his back in a comforting way, trying to soothe Maxii’s pain.
Maxii’s eyes slowly fluttered open, dazed as he sat up in front of Peter. He glanced at Peter for a moment, the drowsiness of sleep affecting his thought process which was slower than usual. As the drowsiness faded he gave Peter a warm smile and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. “Good morning, Peter. What’s wrong?”
“First.” Peter started staring out the window by Maxii’s bed, the moon hid from him behind the clouds and the stars seemed to shine brighter to acknowledge his presence. “It’s still night.”
Maxii smiled at his own stupidity.
“Second.” Peter stared at his blissfully ignorant partner. “You weren’t just sleeping. I got out of control today while we were in the sight of Abbey. To get enough power, I took almost all of yours.”
Maxii nodded. “It’s okay, I’m your partner. I am supposed to do things like that.” Maxii then pushed Peter to his own bed. “You need to go ahead and Sleep. Tomorrow we will once again try to complete our mission.” Peter nodded, and turned away from his partner. As the darkness came to greet him he welcomed it with open arms and lost consciousness.
