Dissipate//Elliminate//Recreate (Chapter One)A Chapter by TwoTailedTabbyDemetri and Peter have awoken and have lived in their village for a few weeks, everything seems calm but the problems continue to arise...
“Hurry! Come on! Hurry up Caleb!” Demetri called, slightly annoyed but happy as he dashed in the middle of many busy people. They were used to this boy by now and his hyperactive habits.
“Demetri! No, NO, come back here! Stop now!” Caleb yelled in a futile effort to get him to stop. He knew he wouldn’t stop, it was worth trying though. “Where did you go…?” He asked no one in particular as he lost sight of Demetri and was surrounded by no one else.
He was at a usually empty intersection of paths inside the Luta-town. He decided quickly to go left as his instincts told him to do so; he still didn’t completely know the town as well as he should.
He was about to change his brisk walk into a dash when he decided against it. Instead, he went the opposite of what he thought he was going to do. He turned his briskness into a sluggish walk, as he searched for his brother.
Slowly, a small, almost unnoticeable merchant stand came into view. Demetri was at the stand, immensely amazed with whatever was there. To closer observation, he was also talking to an unseen person.
He smiled happily at the unseen person he then started to stare once again at whatever the merchant had.
Curious, Caleb stepped a bit closer, only enough to hear the conversation.
What he heard was…
“Oh, Oh! What else does it do?” Demetri purred merrily, urging the person on. “Tell me more!”
The merchant smiled mysteriously, holding up a peculiar shaped fruit. He juggled the fruit back and forth, from his right hand to his left before saying, “This special fruit is the rarest in the entire world. If you were to sell this…you would instantly become rich.” The merchant then glanced darkly at Demetri. “You want it…?”
Demetri’s smile grew about three sizes as he nearly jumped for the fruit. “YES!” He yelled, jumping once again for the fruit; the merchant held it above poor Demetri’s head. “Hey, hey…I don’t think I can just give it to you.” The merchant spoke calmly but Caleb could hear the tease in his voice. He could feel himself frown in dissatisfaction as he watched the disgusting display continue.
“You have to trade me something equally good. Understand?” He leaned over a bit, teasing Demetri even more with the fruit for it was closer now. Demetri whined mournfully, staring at the coveted produce that was so close, but far away from his longing hands.
Demetri thought for a moment, staring at the merchant. “You aren’t rich.” He stated simply, tilting his head. “You are poor, I can tell because of your clothes.” He smiled at the merchant, who was silent the whole time Demetri was talking. “You are lying.” The merchant did not speak for the longest time. Demetri was now curiously staring at the merchant, head still tilted and obviously waiting for him to speak.
Caleb saw the merchant step out of his stand and stand beside Demetri. He was a young boy about his own age and a bit older than Demetri. He was surprised at this because most children in this village did not do much work at all. He wasn’t with any other adults; no one else was helping him work the stand. He was a very bland looking boy. He had dull brown hair and gray tattered clothes, proving that Demetri was right in his observation: The boy was poor. He wasn’t acting very angry that Demetri hadn’t bought the fruit actually he kind of looked relieved that Demetri had figured out his lie. He smiled at Demetri and waved as he started to walk away the opposite direction Caleb was. Before he went completely out of earshot, he yelled back to Demetri. “You might want to be more attentive! People might follow you…” Caleb flinched.
Demetri’s eyes narrowed at the young merchant, he noticed his comment. He had already noticed Caleb as soon as he had started watching, he knew it was for safety. Caleb was the 2nd best becoming hidden; no-one that didn’t belong to his family noticed him. This was very unsettling.
“Brother, I want to leave this place.” Demetri spat out quickly, eyes still glaring at the path the merchant took. “I don’t care if we aren’t ready to leave yet, this whole place is unsafe. Everyone here…Everyone is……Everyone…” His breath came out in short ragged breaths. He was knocked off guard by this merchant and becoming defensive.
“I still don’t understand why we are still here. Our wounds have healed.” Caleb was also watching the path in which the merchant had departed.
Demetri turned towards Caleb and walked towards him. He spoke with all seriousness. “I truly believe that we should leave.” He paused, his calm mask failing to hold, giving way to a fear-filled expression. “That boy was taught by… by…him. That female that attacked us was also taught by him.” He shuddered unhappily. “It isn’t safe here. Not in the least.” He weakly grasped his brother’s shoulders. He stared weakly at his face and closed his eyes, body shaking with terror. “I wish to leave, please.” He shook even worse than he was previously. “PLEASE…”
Caleb stared blankly at his traumatized younger brother and spoke back to him at monotone. “I will see what I do.” Is what he said. It’s all that he said. Nothing more, nothing less. Demetri was completely disappointed in his brother’s reaction. He shook with anger as his brother dismissed his emotions and continued walking towards home.
“Brother!! Be serious!” He paused for a moment as his brother kept walking. “The way you are acting…It isn’t normal for you. You aren’t usually cold to people you are close to.” Demetri’s head hung low, Caleb turned all the way around once again facing his younger brother.
Caleb stomped over to his brother, anger radiating from him like heat on a stove. “I can see where you are going with this. You are wrong.” His voice wasn’t anything more than a whisper. “Completely wrong.”
“I am going to tell them what has happened to you.” Demetri confessed quickly. “You have changed; I think it has something to do with the attack we have both suffered.” He stopped momentarily, only to watch for his brother’s reaction. “I want to do this for our whole family. I believe that I too will become infected with whatever has made you behave this way.”
Caleb glared daggers at his brother, never once moving from the spot he was in.
“You have become so sick that you no longer care about your family?” Demetri murmured softly, brushing softly passed Caleb and onto the path that led to their house. Caleb turned and slowly started to walk along the same path. His mouth opened, only to close again. He wanted to comfort his brother but could not find the words to help him.
As they walked in silence, the darkness surrounded them. The darkness not only concealed the brothers but also the owner of the pair of eyes, watching them ever so carefully. The owner of the eyes laughed softly as he continued to stare at the angered pair. “Hello, mister. Did you like watching them?” A voice said very loudly in the watcher’s eyes.
The watcher swung around quickly, scolding silently with his crimson eyes. “Peter! Silence, boy! We must observe without being noticed.” The boy named Peter chuckled softly.
“I understand. It is too much fun getting you upset.” He gave a sickening sweet smile before saying. “I believe I have already drawn suspicion to this whole town. Amazing.” His eyes stared off into space as he thought of how easily he made the two boys paranoid.
He was interrupted by a hiss from beside him. “You fool! You have single handedly endangered the entire mission! You will soon be punished by him.”
Peter just laughed half-heartedly as he stared at the now clouded sky. “You’re such a horrible liar.” He softly tugged on the observer’s shoulders, implying that it was time to leave. “It isn’t very kind to think those thoughts. Do you wish for my death, Maxii?” He turned into a dark alleyway and was trailed by Maxii.
Maxii sighed. “No, I do not wish your death,” Maxii suddenly stopped walking. He shot out a hand in front of Peter’s path, making him stop walking. He let a low growl from his throat and slowly turned around, hand now holding Peter’s shoulder keeping him still. “Well, did you enjoy our conversation, Abbey?” Maxii spat out angrily. Peter’s body became incredibly stiff once he heard that name.
An awkwardly thin looking woman became visible as she stepped from the shadows. Her dull, curly brown hair set softly on her shoulders, framing her pale face. She also had dull grey eyes. All of these physical features put together gave off the feeling that you were in the presence of a living-corpse. Peter’s feet stepped forward, the opposite direction of Abbey. Maxii’s hand kept him at bay.
