Dissipate//Elliminate//Recreate (proglogue)A Chapter by TwoTailedTabbyThe first morning with Lily and her brothers.
The next day was different from what the group was used to. They awoke in a house in the same town they were in the day before. They were used to appearing wherever they wanted to and starting their day at that place. Caleb and Datara were the first two to awake. They were alarmed by the fact that they were still in this town because it had never happened before. Datara, after regaining his composure awoke Lily.
Lily awoke slowly. She had not panicked at all; she had sorted out her feelings the night before.
“Caleb, we will have to stay here for a few days. At least until Demetri is completely stable.” Lily explained quickly, careful not to awake Demetri. Caleb stared at Demetri as well. He shook his head angrily “That makes no sense.” His voice grew dangerous with ever word. “The threat is here and it is throwing Demetri off!” His voice was incredibly loud now but he didn’t notice as he yelled at Lily “If we stay here he will never get better!” He finished by glaring at Lily with the most hateful stare.
Lily was not affected at all by Caleb’s noisy rant. She stared behind him at Demetri who was now awake. He was staring at the three of them with half-lidded eyes, obviously tired. “What is going on?” He asked the slightest bit of confusion in his voice.
Caleb sighed softly, smiling warmly at Demetri. “Nothing is wrong, little brother. Go back to sleep, okay?” The innocence in his voice was too thick and Demetri could tell that something was up. He was too tired to care about that though and complied with Caleb’s suggestion.
Caleb then whirled back to Lily and whispered heatedly. “If ANYTHING bad happens to Demetri—“
Lily cut him off. “Listen, Caleb! If I move him, he will desperately want to go back and go into a worse condition. I have no intention on hurting my own brother. I’m sure that this is the best idea.” Lily then dismissed herself and left the small house they were in.
Caleb looked at the door Lily walked through for a few moments before turning desperately to Datara. “She won’t listen! We are going to get caught because of her!” He yelled accusingly.
Datara nodded happily, ignoring what Caleb was saying. He then turned towards Caleb. “It would be nice to challenge him again.” He had a look of complete anger on his face.
Caleb stared at Datara for a short moment before mumbling. ‘You are just as bad as her; blinded by your own ambitions.” Caleb ignored the glare shot at him and slowly stared at the ground. He slid to the ground, crouching, as he continued to think.
“Caleb. I can tell that you are also affected by his presence.” Datara stated in monotone, cautiously watching for his reaction. Caleb did not respond.
Suddenly, Caleb laughed softly--at himself?—At Datara? He stared back up at Datara. “How so? What makes you come to that conclusion?”
Datara voice stayed in monotone, his alertness stayed at its height. “Ever since you realized he was this close, you have become paranoid.”
Caleb pretended not to hear his brother; shaking his head in disbelief.
“It’s true. You have even come to mistrust your family.” Datara finished slowly, starting to walk towards the door. “If that sort of behavior from you continues, we will take action.” Datara then exited the house. He closed the door just in time to avoid a shoe that was thrown towards him. Smiling, he stalked off to find Lily. She needed to be informed they wouldn’t take action yet, but…she needed to at least know the symptoms of what Caleb is suffering from.
Caleb was once again left alone staring at the door, feeling worse than when he was arguing with the departing person.
Demetri was still asleep. He was snoring softly, blissfully unaware of the conflict that had happened. He shifted slightly, his snoring stopped. After a few quiet moments though, he was back to his peacefully and silent sleep.
“Demetri…! You should be the one awake now. This argument is about you.” His voice met deaf ears. “Wake up, brother. You need to wake up! Demetri! Get up, GET UP!” He was yelling now, Demetri didn’t respond. He didn’t even flinch, he heard nothing. Demetri was never deaf, he could hear perfectly. Why won’t you answer me Demetri! Caleb thought frantically, his yells became unintelligent and just screams ripped from his throat. Please answer me! PLEASE! Demetri!! He begged in his head, jolting up from his crouching position and ran towards Demetri’s sleeping form. Demetri’s face was calm he was still sleeping. He was okay, he just didn’t respond. Oh…I thought…You were….
Caleb was suddenly surprised by his reaction towards Demetri’s silence. A hidden memory must have resurfaced. That only happened when He was close. Caleb flinched. Only when he was close….Only when he was close….ONLY… The sentence repeated itself in his head, teasing him with the fact he hadn’t realized it sooner.
His eyes widened as he heard the door creak open slowly. He didn’t turn to face the person, whose unfamiliar and threatening aura had been so thick it had awoken Demetri. Said boy, was staring wildly at the person who had invaded their new home.
Caleb quickly opened his mouth in an attempt to yell, such an act would be enough to alert the others—that is if they haven’t already been found and captured. Before he could do so however he was attacked from behind a hand covering his mouth making him utter a muffled cry.
“Good boy, Demetri. You will be rewarded greatly for your obedience.” The person said. It was a female. It wasn’t him…Then why was Demetri…?
“You have his scent on you. It is all over your clothes. Will I get to see him? After this?” He whined softly, struggling to keep Caleb in his grip. His eyes became cold as he did not receive an answer.
“You will have to come with me to see.” She responded slyly, opening the door wider, taunting him with the possibilities.
Demetri let out an animalistic growl and glared at her. He then paused his grip on Caleb loosened but not enough for him to become free. He glanced back at the woman happily, a smile spread across his face. “I refuse to play that sort of game.” He then quickly released Caleb and dropped to his knees in a sort of submissive position. His eyes closed and his body started to shake. He had his palms placed onto the ground and his face started to contort to a look of extreme concentration. Caleb crouched over Demetri, eyeing the woman carefully. He then whispered into his younger brother’s ear “its okay, Demetri. Don’t do anything, I can handle it. Okay?” Demetri shook his head from side to side violently. “No. Stay calm, okay?” Demetri’s body shook but he nodded. He then went limp.
“Demetri? Hey, Demetri!? DEMETRI! De—“Caleb screamed before suddenly feeling a sting in his right arm. A dart filled with a mysterious liquid was empting into his veins. He started to feel drowsy and ripped the dart from his arm. It was too late to stop the effects though. Most of the liquid had already gone into his body. He let out a groan and started to slump. He fought desperately for his consciousness as he crawled towards the lady. He stared up at her angrily and grabbed weakly at her ankle. He let out another strained scream and then dropped onto the ground.
She waited patiently. She heard a soft snore come from Demetri as he curled up into a more comfortable position. Eventually, she then heard Caleb sigh softly as he rolled onto his back, eyes closed. Smiling malevolently, she picked up Caleb and Demetri and started towards the exit.
“You’d best let go of them, if you want to escape this house alive.” A calm but firm voice informed her growling. In the door-way stood Lily, she was staring at her brothers she was holding. “Release them!”
The lady just smirked grimly as her body stared to fade into nothingness along with her two hostages.
Lily raised her hand quickly and swung it in the lady’s direction. A wave of water flung towards her. The water had hit its mark, stunning the woman for a moment. She stared at Lily with a dumb expression on her face before she tried to fade once more, which was hard because of the extra object that had been added. It is difficult to disappear when more things are added and Lily knew this. To ensure that the woman would stay where she was though she held out her hand and slowly started to clench it.
The temperature started to decrease rapidly and noticeably. Caleb shifted uncomfortably. Demetri was also showing signs of discomfort. The water started to become stiff on the woman’s body and starting to freeze. The woman could no longer move; the water had frozen her where she stood.
“Release them or I will crush your body with the ice.” Her voice was calm as the ice started to clench around her body. The ice clenched harder and harder until the woman finally screamed
“Okay!! OKAY! I’ll let them go!”
Lily allowed the ice to warm, become water and defrost the captor. Her palm was still raised, warning the woman of what would happen if she betrayed her. Frowning, the woman let Caleb and Demetri gently down onto the floor and backed away slowly.
She glared at Lily one last time before disappearing.
Lily groaned in frustration as she stared at her unconscious brothers. She mentally slapped herself at the state of unsafely she left her family in. She had heard of what happened once she left with Caleb and Datara. She hadn’t noticed the instability in Caleb because she was too concerned with the dangers of what might had happened, not what was happening.
As she thought about this Datara entered the house. He calmly closed the door and picked up Caleb. He placed Caleb on a mat on the far east of the room and Demetri on the mat on the west of the room. While doing this, he never acknowledged the fact that Lily was in the room. Once he was done relocating his brothers he turned to Lily. He stared at her knowingly, he slowly started to talk. “We’ve been found know.” He stated. “We also cannot leave this town; we might actually have to stay longer than intended because of the attack on Caleb and Demetri.” Datara was stating the obvious to Lily.
Lily stared at her feet. “We will try to move as soon as possible.” She stared at Caleb. “Now that I think more clearly it was obvious she wasn’t really sent to capture them. She gave up to fast.”
Lily paused. “I should have been more careful”
Datara contemplated agreeing with her for a moment before going against it. Making her feel worse wasn’t going to help anyone. Instead, he smiled encouragingly and spoke softly. “It is okay, sister. We will get through this, we always do.” He nudged her side playfully before adding. “What would Caleb think if he saw his big sister crying and acting like this, hm?”
Lily laughed softly and responded. “I never cried.”
“You were about to through; I could see the sadness building up.” His voice became unbearable high-pitched. “I should have been more careful, boo-hoo, boo-hoo—OW!” At that point Lily hit Datara’s head with her fist, ending his fun. She smiled happily and stared at the ceiling. “Did you gather anything interesting other than what you told me already?” She asked quietly.
“Of course. Fortunately,” He paused to sit down in a small wooden chair. “We didn’t attract as much attention as we thought we did. No one pays any attention to us ‘peasants’~” His tongue rolled the word playfully and he was swinging side to side in his chair.
Lily let a small laugh escape her as she noticed fatigue slowly attack her. “Datara, please gather food. Even if we haven’t eaten in a while, it seems we have to now…”
Datara nodded, going back outside the house and into the town.
Lil sighed, staring worriedly at Caleb and then at Demetri. What would they do now…?
