La Famille (the family)

La Famille (the family)

A Chapter by Emmy

Dec 5, 2011
They tell me we had big test coming up called Finals. I am scared because I do not understand everything yet. Jamie and Samuel help me with English.
I met a girl called Emily today. I remember friend Émile from Nice. She was nice. Emily is nice too. She says we have close names. I do not understand. She says the children call her Emmy too. I like the name for her. She likes to draw and sing too. We are alike. She takes French but is in different hour than me. Jamie spoke "Emily is pretty nice I guess. I haven't talked to her before. She's really shy usually." when I told her I met her. Samuel says he likes Emmy. He says he really really likes her. I will not tell her though. Il est son secret à dire (translate in English: it is his secret to tell). I hope she will not be timide around us. We are good and so we can be trusted.
I am better at English since I have come here. I am learning to put together words like will and not make won't. It is makes it's. I do my best. I saw bad things today. Jake and Katie using mean words with a child. I walked up and started yelling in French until the got mad and tired and walked away. Jamie says I was smart. Teacher says that was good deed. I like being smart. The kid ran without thank you. That made me feel bad. Did I do something wrong? I try to do right but not always it works.
Today Abel was sent home. Head teacher says he hurt another child. I am not happy. Parents are not home ever, so I take care of brothers and sisters. I told Abel "You try to make France look bad? You be careful and you learn kind words. You will says sorry to poor child tomorrow. Now go to room and I will not tell parents." Father would surely hit Abel if he learned about it. He will get angry easy. I do not blame him. I do not like the hitting though. I do everything to keep that gone. I protect brothers and sisters. I love them.
I am to help sister Adelise study English, but how can I when I am no good? I ask Jamie and Samuel but they can not. I had to ask new friend Emily and she said over telephone. We study for hours until we were called for food and I said thank you and we ate. I made Abel bless the food. We are Christians. We are looking for a church but can not find one.
I am scared for Abel. He is bad in school, both grades and way he acts. I try to help but he won't listen. He is a "bad boy" as Jamie said. I do not understand but I trust Jamie. She would not lie.
Acel is a good child. He does good in all classes. He is 16 years old. He is better in English then me. He is smart. Adelise is smart too, but she is good most in Maths class. She like numbers. She can count to 200 in English! Abel is a bad child. He has bad grades and does not try. I have seen him do good, and he can be good, but he won't try in classes. I am smart I think. I do well in school and teachers like me. Children do not. I do not like them either so oh bien (oh well). I must go help Acel in work so au revoir, rester fidèle. (You forget? in English, goodbye, remain faithful)
