It Was Just A Game

It Was Just A Game

A Poem by Riverdance
"

Written for the Starts With/Ends With Contest

"

I thought our love was everlasting

Like two magnets bound for good
A selfless passion; gift of self
Of matching souls that win the game

But as the pawn completes his round
The cards collapse and fall undone
Despite the times you let me move
I've found the cheats you left behind

I roll the dice and throw them far
Yet once again the number's low
You draw a card and place it down
The joker's laugh and evil glare

I want to win and to believe
But now it's best to end the game
I know I've lost; you have the ace
We might as well stop pretending

Author's Note

Riverdance
I tried to incorporate several different game pieces into the poem as a represention of their love she lost.

Well done, the luck of the draw....great metaphors for the game of love in this one.

My new nihilism wants to turn all the table upside down and quit the game! On the basis nothing is worth winning apart from solitude deep in the wood. As you say, if it is 'just a game' what is the point? :)))

I like that you did that... the pawn... the joker...very well done.
