The Velvet Blue

A poem about the experience of divine grace

The Velvet Blue

Like rough hewn rock in velvet blue,
so my soul does feel when graced.
For of this earth, I’m but dust and  time,
but more, when in the cloth I’m placed.

For God did pause one autumn day,
as He strolled this maple wood.
To grasp a humble, common stone, .
    And lift it heavenward.

Then for reasons I shall never not know,
He touched me with His gentle hand,
And wiped away the dirt and grime,
the dust and grains of sand.

I saw no beauty in who I was,
I was little more than clay,
But in His eyes, I was a sparklin’ jewel,
That would shine one coming day.

It did take time for the worth within,
    to surface to the Light,
In His hands, he polished me,
    with His holiness of sight.

But the beauty that was most of all,
was when the Lord so lovingly did place,
This shard of hard and crusty rock,
in His soft, blue velvet grace.

Welcome!
I've just read Velvet Blue;
For God did pause one autumn day,
as He strolled this maple wood.
To grasp a humble, common stone, .
And lift it heavenward.
Love this stanza, this is a touching piece, that I very much enjoyed. Can't wait to see what else you bring our way!!

Keep Writing! ;)

Well done! It's hard to write about something one can scarcely explain... in this case "grace". But you have done a marvelous job here. Thank you Emily for the referral.

I've always been intrigued with that word 'grace'. This is a lovely, meditational sort of write. Thanks for sharing it here.

Very nice. I think most of us have had a moment when we have seen ourselves as unworthy clay figures. For those of us who have been touched, no words can adequately describe the absolute love and glory that we felt.

Not from lack of trying, though. :)
