Coconut CakeA Poem by Rita L. Sev<>I longed to rival Emily, Amherst’s immortal Belle And today, in some small way, I did so rather well
Though sadly, not in poetry ~ To this I must confess; It was in my tiny kitchen Where I met with this success
It seems that she was quite adept With sugar, eggs, and flour Adding flavor to the world With more than just word power
I came upon a recipe Written in her hand (The internet’s amazing for finding things unplanned…)
I heard her speak through aged ink, And did as I was told Resulting in the sweetness That brought back the days of old
Once again, Miss Emily Has kept me from starvation Filling soul and sweet tooth, Still a constant inspiration *Emily Dickinson's handwritten recipe. There is a poem on the back... © 2015 Rita L. SevAuthor's Note
