January 1

A Poem by Rita L. Sev

A new year finds us older,

And pondering the past

The future lies right at our feet;

The strong resolve won’t last

A time to re-mourn those we’ve lost,

And long for coming gains ~

To recognize the changes,

Holding fast to what remains

the time space continuum ;) i have never been one for resolutions ...and have learned not to hold on too tightly to what remains ..but i love the thought in your poem .. reminiscing and life review are so important for growing and teaching ...a job for us all actually ..aint it!? ;))

New beginnings can be empowering and challenging. The key is to take the moments as opportunity.
Great New Year poetry.

Thanks, Sheila - happy 2016!
The end of the years is a great time to reflect on what has happened, but we must not let it keep us from moving forward into the new year.

Always forward... yes! Thanks, Dale!
I like how you acknowledge the past and the future in this poem. I suppose all of the countdowns to the New Year make us acutely aware of the passage of time. Inevitably, we are bound to remember everything we have left behind. What a year it would be if we could adhere the the sage advice in your last two lines. As you suggest, everyday day is just as valuable as the first day of the year.

Thank you, Christian - yes, just as valuable, and fleeting.
Yes, the new year brings on a bit of reflection. We can not go forward with a smile till we have made peace with what has happening in the past. Life is full of changes....not all of them good. As we get older, each January 1st becomes more significant. Another good one, Rita. Happy New Year to you. Lydi**

Hm... The past changes, and the future is shaky... might as well live in the present. :)
Once more your wise words draw a sigh from me Rita - the truth in them is undeniable and the soul knows this causing (IMHO) the big sigh from the body - a soul lifting write Rita
