Connect

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

...

"
Trudging through the food court
ill-bred, sullen zombies
so many walking billboards
for Fitch and Abercrombie
we've raised a generation
of texting, tweeting drones
their means of human contact
inanimate iPhones
perhaps some day they might just learn
to make a real connection
not settling for modern day's
bland pseudo-affection

love the word choice in this one... unfortunately very true and fitting... ill-bred, zombie, drones... yep, sums it up beautifully... starts at home though.. I have seen families bring their child to psychiatric facility I work at and everyone is on phone, not talking, not looking at each other.. sad... missing that connection as you say... that affection... and the billboards.... can they pull their pants up and cover up.. oh my goodness!! that is not cute or sexy... brilliantly expressed..

Thanks, Manal!
Oh yes, the walking billboards. My parents always railed against me wearing that stuff and I am so glad they did. I developed my own weird and wonky style, and rarely concern myself with labels, just with what works. Mindless zombies, ipods in, twittering away, wearing all the latest gear paid for by mom and dad. Yep, and we have only ourselves to blame that some of these people will one day run the country.

This behaviour is all around, and it is very sad. More and more our souls are subsumed within cyberspace and electronics while the real world passes us by. I like the message in your poem. I particularly like the last line, for that is exactly what it is.

You see this everywhere you go. I was out to dinner the other night. A couple was in the booth next to me sitting on opposite sides of the table and both were looking at and texting on their phones the entire time, never having a conversation. You are so current and observant in your poetry.

I have seen that kind of thing in restaurants too... It makes me sad. Thank you, Damien

You are welcome...:).........
I agree with Frieda. Tpday's generation is making contact in ways that weren't possible before.

Lol - yes, I rarely miss... ;) Thanks for stopping by, Ed!
The future is here...a generation of slaves to technology. There are dystopian aspects to all generations I think. They seem lost to me but they are not the lost generation.

Thank you, Blue - you are right; they are not really lost. It's just the way of progress...
