Ten years from now

         the age I print on medical forms

will begin

         with a different number

 

Ten years from now

          the boy who mows my lawn

          will be a man

 with a lawn of his own

 

Ten years from now

            I will hold in my hands

            some piece of technology

            implausible in this moment

 

Ten years from now

            I will lay flowers on a grave

            to honor a loved one

    in perfect health today

 

Ten years from now

            I will be incredulous

            at all that has occurred

            in ten years…

You've become a prophet of the highest order here my friend...this one would have been just as relevant to me ten years ago had I read it then, and will undoubtedly be relevant in the decade to come...it's so true, some things we just know...I just knew about certain things back then, and I just know about things that I hope I'm wrong about, but likely won't be...this is a departure in theme and style for you Rita...I think I can speak for many of us when I say we view you as a positive conscience on the site, but you have said what simply must be said here, and you've spoken for many of us in the process...the emotion and poignancy of this piece is unavoidably palpable, and I can only sigh and nod in sympathy towards your observations...awesome work my friend.

This little gem makes me contemplate a future beyond the end of my evening in such a wondrous way. There will be changes both expected and unexpected, but, as you remind us, there will definitely be change good and bad. When faced with all the changes to come, I wonder, how I will have evolved to face them. When "I turn to face the strange changes," will I recognize myself. Beautiful and thought provoking bit of writing here. Very well done!

Ten years from now I could be the leader of a break away republic, or in jail. What I do between now and then will determine the outcome. I should probably start recruiting disgruntled workers. That shouldn't be to hard.
