Fortune

Fortune

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Seuss Style #2

"

In Hollyville they always dine

On sautéed figs and truffled wine

They sit at tables dressed in gold

Counting riches twenty-fold

While on the other side of town

In Hollyburg, THEY all sit down

To humble bread and ale buffet

Counting blessings every day

If you could, you just might wish

To partake in the ville-side’s dish

But treasures can be overdone;

Among so much, you value none

You see, when simple pleasures reign

You worry not about more gain

And every sunrise is a thrill

When hearts are all you need to fill

Thank you, Ance! Glad you had fun! :)
OK. So Dr. Suess was my favorite from a child and remains. What an interesting man. His poems are infectious stories with incredible lessons that apply to all. My mother use to recite me Horton Hatches an Egg from memory. That spawned a curiosity for the Dr's other books.

I think we could coin a term from these two Seuss peices. Could it be Suess'esque?

I've heard the term "Seussical" too... :) Yes, Seuss is a favorite, even today. Thanks, Xavier.
How could I miss a poem with my name in the title? ;) Just kidding, I absolutely adore this one regardless of the title...the Doctor's spirit looms large in these verses with your mix of whimsy and philosophy...he had a way of teaching us life lessons when most of us were too young to even realize it...I'm older now, but your poem does the same...love this one :)

Oh, I adore this.........terrific rhyme, and message to boot! You indicate it as a Seuss Style and indeed it is!
Simple pleasures are so very fine - more is too complicated and cumbersome!
Love this one Rita!!

Thanks, Sheila - trying to simplify lately... :)
If the humble bread and ale buffet is all you can eat, I'm in.
